Oxford Immunotec Sponsors Doctors.Net.Uk And Masterclass Plus Healthcare Training Programmes To Support Best Practice Guidelines For The Diagnosis Of TB

Oxford, UK; 26 June 2006 – Oxford Immunotec Ltd, the T cell measurement company, has today announced that it is sponsoring two training programmes to provide improved education for heath care professionals on the diagnosis of TB.

The training programmes, hosted by Doctors.net.uk and Masterclass Plus, and accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by the United Kingdom Conference of Educational Advisers, have been compiled to provide an update on changes in practice following the recent NICE guidelines, issued in March this year.

These guidelines confirmed the use of blood tests as the first line diagnostic for latent TB in all immunosuppressed individuals, whatever the cause. This includes HIV infection as well as any drug induced immunosuppression, which may occur in groups such as transplant and arthritis patients.

The Doctors.net.uk and the Masterclass Plus programmes are focused on doctors and nurses respectively and are free of charge. Over 600 healthcare professionals so far have completed the programmes to gain CPD credits. The training can be completed through a combination of educational modules, distance learning and on-line learning, with an assessment at the end. Having completed the training, one GP registrar in South Wales commented: “Very good. One of the best modules I have done so far.”

The Doctors.net.uk module was written by Dr Kimuli Ryanna, Specialist Registrar in Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine at Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, and reviewed by Dr Chris Conlon, Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. The Masterclass Plus training was co-developed by Genus Pharmaceuticals, with support from Lilly.

Commenting on the training programme, Peter Wrighton-Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Oxford Immunotec said, “We are delighted to be involved in this programme. Our goal is to provide effective diagnosis of TB to enable early treatment and prevent the spread of TB. We believe it is important to help support the education of healthcare professionals by enabling them to keep up to date with the changing world of current best practice and guidelines and how this will affect the diagnosis for TB.” To find out more about the training, healthcare professionals can visit http://www.doctors.net.uk/ andhttp://www.masterclassplus.co.uk/
