Oxford Immunotec Announces European Approval And Launch Of T Cell Xtend™

SEPTEMBER 2008 – Oxford Immunotec has launched a revolutionary new product enabling the T-SPOT.TB assay to be run on blood samples collected up to 32 hours after venepuncture.

T-Cell Xtend is an antibody complex directed against specific cell surface antigens on human blood cells. It cross-links selected white cells, which may interfere with ELISpot assays, with red blood cells increasing their density so that they form a pellet when applied to a density gradient.

With T-Cell Xtend, T-SPOT.TB offers interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) users unrivalled flexibility. Blood can be kept at room temperature for a full 32 hours prior to start of the assay- the longest “time to lab” of any currently available IGRA. Blood samples can now be easily shipped overnight and are collected in standard lithium heparin tubes with no need for dedicated collection tubes or shaking of tubes.

Data from 372 patient samples, including 232 from high endemic TB areas and 77 with culture-confirmed HIV, show a 97% concordance in T-SPOT.TB results between fresh blood and blood samples up to 32 hours old using T-Cell Xtend.

T-Cell Xtend is available in a box of 3 X 2ml vials, sufficient for between 24 and around 40 T-SPOT.TB samples, depending upon volume of blood collected.
